Akshardham Operation Vajra Shakti 2025 Movie Reviews
About 19 years ago, Ahmedabad and the nation were rocked by a terrorist attack that killed approximately 30 people and injured over 80. Following the 2002 Gujarat riots, the September 24 attack on Krishna Dham Mandir (renamed from Akshardham Mandir) stunned the city. Four terrorists, demanding the release of their gang member Bilal Naikoo (played by Mir Sarwar), stormed the temple in a calculated assault orchestrated from Pakistan. They killed numerous innocents and took hostages. The Ahmedabad police, alongside the National Security Guards (NSG), took charge to neutralize the threat.
The film State of Siege: Temple Attack, inspired by real events, honors the bravery of uniformed personnel. Directed by Ken Ghosh, it offers a detailed look at the NSG’s operation to save lives. While Ghosh takes creative liberties to craft an engaging fictional drama, the screenplay by William Borthwick and Simon Fantauzzo remains focused and avoids excessive dramatization. It centers on the characters’ humanity rather than portraying them as larger-than-life heroes, though their real-life heroism is evident. The film may evoke comparisons to other terrorist attack narratives but risks disappointing some viewers due to its fictionalized take on such a tragic event. It touches on the surface without delving into hidden details often withheld from the public.
Tejal Pramod Shetye’s cinematography elevates the story’s tone, with stunning visuals of Manali’s landscapes and well-executed action sequences choreographed by Mandhar Verma and Rinku Bacchan.
The story opens in Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir, in 2001, where NSG commandos, led by Major Hanut Singh (Akshaye Khanna) and Capt. Bibek (Akshay Oberoi), undertake a mission to rescue a kidnapped minister’s daughter. The operation leaves Hanut injured and Bibek dead, causing Hanut to grapple with PTSD. Yet, when duty calls, he must suppress his struggles and prepare for the next mission. Alongside Captain Rohit Bagga (Vivek Dahiya), Hanut leads the response to the temple attack.
