Set in a small town, the story begins with the mysterious disappearance of a schoolgirl. If you watched the trailers for Gangers, you’d expect a hilarious heist comedy. But until the intermission, the film feels like a generic commercial drama about a vigilante-like figure tackling evil in a small town, leaving you wondering, “Where’s the humor?”
The story starts with a missing schoolgirl—part of a string of disappearances—a teacher (Catherine Tresa, playing the usual Sundar C glamorous heroine) searching for her, and a police officer paired with an undercover cop at the school. Sundar C leans heavily on commercial clichés: a comedian (Vadivelu) vying for the heroine’s affection while clashing with the hero (Sundar C, reprising his typical Aranmanai-style role), a seemingly good character revealed as a villain, and plenty of violence. None of it sparks much emotion.
